Growing weary means feeling drained by demands, dragging through the day, feeling tired and listless
lacking energy, losing hope, getting weighed down by worries, becoming burned out.

When you ask the question, Peter Please Answer Me, what are you hoping to hear? Is it the grief represented by the Five of Cups? I very much doubt it. I think when you Ask Jud, or check Peter Answers you are hoping for an uplifting message. That is what the Six of Cups represents.

In the film Parenthood there is a scene in which all the members of a large family come together to witness a birth. As the camera pans from person to person, we see as if for the first time the individuality of each one. They talk and laugh, but suddenly their actions seem anything but ordinary. There is a sweetness in the air that builds until we see its very embodiment – the new baby. This is the spirit of the Six of Cups.

It is a truism that there is violence, anger and mean-spiritedness in the world. No question there is too much of this, but there is also much good will and caring. When Peter Answers you must listen, but often Peter himself isn’t enough. That’s when you need to bring out the big dogs. Like doing a tarot spread. This is a continuing series I am doing to help educate you on the magic of the tarot.

The Five of Cups is about heartbreaking loss. On this card, we see a figure draped in black and covered in grief. As the only figure on the card it is impossible to look past him, he so dominates the card. The Five of Cups refers to that time when the pain of a loss is the most severe. Heart wrenchingly, shocking grief. This man is looking only at the overturned cups in front of him. For now, he cannot acknowledge the two cups that are still standing. Later, when he has healed somewhat, he will be able to see all that remains.

In tarot spreads, the Five of Cups can tell you about the possibility of a coming loss and its associated emotions – sorrow, regret, denial. The loss could be great or small. It could be real (money, possessions, relationships, work), or intangible (dream, opportunity, prospect, reputation). You may already know what this card represents, but, if not, use it as a warning to help you avoid a loss, or at least reduce its impact.

You may feel discouraged by this card, but it does have a positive side. Every loss opens new possibilities for growth because every loss initiates change. Loss hurts because it is our emotional resistance to change. No matter how much we accept that we must go with the flow, if that flow separates us from what we love, our feelings say, “No!” It is very important to not be demorilized by the appearance of this card. For one thing, this is life. We all suffer and grieve in different ways. And again, it could represent something as simple as intangible loss.

In a story from Zen Flesh, Zen Bones, the master Hakuin is falsely accused of fathering a child. His reputation in the village is ruined, but he accepts this loss and takes tender care of the child for a year. Suddenly, the real father appears, and Hakuin willingly yields the child to its parents, accepting loss again. We who are not Zen masters may not flow quite so lightly with events, but we can learn from this story. The more we struggle to hold on to what is gone, the more we suffer.

The actions of the Five of Cups are suffering a loss, feeling bereft and feeling regret.

Suffering a loss means letting go of a hope, giving up the win, experiencing a setback, being defeated, having a possession taken away and saying good-bye.

Feeling bereft means breaking up a relationship, feeling deprived of love, longing to be reunited, grieving and feeling sorrow.

Feeling regret means being disappointed by events, crying over spilled milk, wanting to turn back the clock, wishing for what might have been, believing you made the wrong choice and acknowledging mistakes.

So as I have mentioned before I like other fortune tellers other than Peter Answers. I am fascinated by those who can read the tarot cards and as part of learning more about them I am going through and documenting what each of the cards mean. Of course the magic of having your fortune told is that the fortune teller doesn’t just tell you what the cards mean they truly read all of the signs to offer you a fortune that is most likely to come to fruition.

There are three cards in the tarot that focus on the aspect of the group – each from a different point of view. It’s the formal approach for the Hierophant, teamwork for the Three of Pentacles, and for the Three of Cups, it’s emotions. How does it feel like to join with others? What is friendship and community? These questions are answered by the Three of Cups.

On the Three of Cups there are three women dancing together in a circle. Their arms reach out to each other to connect their feelings, which is represented by the Cups. In many settings, women create and nurture the social glue that bonds people together. These dancing women are a symbol of coming together in love. (Of course, these feelings do not only relate to woman.)

When doing a tarot spread, the Three of Cups can signify a friend or the feelings associated with friendship. This card can represent community – the network of support created when we interact with others. It can be any group in which the members feel a bond. When you see the Three of Cups, examine your attachments to the groups in your life from an emotional point of view. Consider reaching out to give or receive help, maybe for those who suffer with Abusive Men. This card stands for all forms of support, including formal aid such as counseling and other social services.

So next in my series of evaluating the meaning of tarot cards instead of focusing on Peter Answers, after previously evaluating the Ace of Cups I turn to the Two of Cups.

The Two of cups is all about connection, truce and attraction.

What is interesting about the Two of Cups is that to really understand it, all one needs to do is to peer at the image on the card. It is of a woman and a man gazing lovingly into each others eyes, preparing to share their cups (emotions). This is the very essence of romantic beauty and sexual attraction. There is am amazing amount of energy between them. The Two of Cups shows power and beauty that is forged when two people come together. If you are a lover, then the Two of Cups is the card you want to see in your spread. In fact, the Two of Cups is basically the minor arcana equivalent of the Lovers card.

In addition to the obvious romance, this card carries a deeper meaning as well. Whenever two forces of any kind come together there is the potential for bonding, whether it is two people, two groups, two ideas, whatever. When reading, the Two of Cups informs you to look for connections in your life of any kind, mostly one on one connections. When you see the Two you know you are not supposed to be alone or apart with anything. It’s all about those connections. Have you had a spat with someone? Reach out to them and get back together. Are you struggling between two choices? Figure it out and seek to reconcile them.

I haven’t been doing much of the free online fortune teller Peter Answers lately, but what I have been doing is reading up on one of the tools of the trade for fortune tellers and that is tarot cards. Since Peter Answers has been described as a virtual tarot this only makes sense that I would dabble in this area.

As you probably know, a tarot deck is grouped by Major Arcana, Wans, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. I have decided to start my foray into the tarot by looking at Cups. We start with the Ace of Cups.

The Ace of Cups is a harbinger of possibilities, particularly in the area of being in tune, being intimate and of having deep feelings, compassion and of course love. When using it in readings it shows that you are emotionally aware although you may not yet know it. When you are made aware of it, it could take any form, you can’t be sure. It could be an attraction towards another, a simple strong feeling, true knowing, or a sympathetic reaction. It could even be an offer or a gift or a surprise encounter!

When you see the Ace of Cups you need to take a deep look at your life and see how the energy could work for you. Because this card means love people assume it means romance but that is not always the case, it may just mean a strong connection with another. Find ways to connect with others. Have someone you need to forgive? Forgive them! When you see the Ace you know the fortune teller is telling you your time is here.

The Ace of cups also portends inner attunement and spirit. The Cups translate to the suit of hearts and the Ace is the card that means a direct knowing that can only begin in the heart. You need to trust yourself. Find way to explore your own thoughts and your connections with your spirit. Allow your strong emotions to take you in a different direction. Embrace the love of the Ace of Cups.
